Ueshiro Hawaii Karate Dojo
The essence of Matsubayashi Shorin Ryu Karate focuses around the "KATA". "Kata" can be defined as an organized series of prearranged defensive and offensive movements symbolizing an imaginary fight against several opponents and performed in a geometrical pattern.

In addition to "Kata", individuals learn ready stances, attacking techniques, blocking techniques, kicking techniques, and weapon techniques. All these combine to help build each of our own warrior spirits.

We constantly strive to build our perception with our eyes (MAI), strengthen our footwork for foundation and balance (SOKU), increase our desire to do more and fear less as we build courage (Tan den), and learn to control our breath as we increase our physical power and strength (Riki).

Testing for beginner ranks are held every two months. High rank belt tests are conducted on the months of February and August every year. All tests are subject to the Sensei's approval.

All students work at their pace and to their own body's potential.

Learn physical, spiritual, and mental exercises that can be adjusted to each individual's goals and objectives.

Modified and Accelerated programs are as varied as the individuals practicing the programs. Warm-ups and stretches are done before and after physical training.

"THERE ARE NO SHORTCUTS, MAGICAL WAYS, OR MYSTICAL PATHS TO SUCCESS EITHER IN SHORIN-RYU KARATE NOR IN ANYTHING ELSE IN LIFE".

Shorin-Ryu Karate U.S.A
The Shorin-Ryu Karate U.S.A. organization was founded by Grand Master Ansei Ueshiro, who first came to the United States in 1962. The current Chief Representative of the organization is Hanshi Robert Scaglione. Of the four styles of Shorin-Ryu karate in existence today, the organization trains in the tradition of Okinawan Matsubayashi Shorin-Ryu karate. A museum and learning annex in honor of our system and our founders can be seen at 1755 South Tropical Trail, Merrit Island, Florida. You can even pay a visit to the museum online at www.shorinryu.com/museum.htm. Further information on the Ueshiro Hawaii Karate Dojo and Shorin-Ryu Karate U.S.A. can be found at www.shorinryu.com.
